Yesterday they removed Dads PEG (feeding) tube, We took him to the hospital about 7:00 and he was back in his room by 9:00. They sedated him, then they just "pulled" it out, they say the stomach seals itself so he has no sutures inside or out. Dad missed AM therapy, he ate lunch then took a nap and went to PM therapy. He says it is not bothering him, it actually feels better.
Tuesday evening there was nothing on the dinner menu he liked, so we took him a double cheese burger and fries, he thought he was in heaven!! (I can't imagine three months without fast food)
Dean Acre and Rhonda were in to see him yesterday, he talked quite a while with them and did fairly well with his words. He really enjoys visitors and reminiscing with every one. It seems to brighten his spirits.
Therapy is going well and getting tougher too. Today he was climbing (crawling?) over a foam block. He says it is to help him get somewhere if he falls. His speech is improving daily. Until he gets tired he can do quite well. He is also improving quite well with feeding himself. Dad can eat about anything (they monitor his sugar and it is staying good) he does need a little help with certain foods but he is adamant that he at least tries to do it himself first.
Dad does get down occasionally. He is VERY frustrated about his arm not working. His leg doesn't bother him as much. He says at times he feels helpless as a baby, and then he gets quite upset. He is getting an anti-depressant, and for the most part he is fairly upbeat and chipper. There are a few times when he is talking to either Mom or me one on one, he will talk about what is really on is mind or how he is feeling.
I am very pleased that I can write mostly good things about Dads progress, although there are still quite a few rough spots in his recovery they are getting fewer and farther between.
Please keep the prayers and positive thoughts flowing his way, he still has a long row to hoe.
