Tonight Dad had his tracheotomy done, they took him down around 7:00; everything went well, it really seems nice to see him with out a tube in his mouth. His nurse today (Phyllis) said he was not as heavily sedated and seemed to be responding to commands well. He will sometimes look in the direction of your voice, at this point no one knows what or even if he is seeing. Until he is more awake we won't know what damage was done and what will return.
After surgery he tried coughing, and of course can't. When he does Jill (tonight's nurse) comes in and clears his throat with suction. The trach is planned to be only temporary, though right now it will make weaning Dad from the ventilator easier on him and them.
Dad seems to have the pneumonia under control and the clots are being cleared out. Hopefully this will be a better week, unlike last week where he was fighting other battles along with trying to heal. The Doctor says his brain is doing better, it just is going to be an uphill battle.
All your support and prayers are so very much appreciated and they must be helping.
Love to All
