Today was an awesome day for Dad!! He was quite alert and interacting. He was mouthing words and smiling. It takes us a while to figure some of things he is trying to say, but, he was quite clearly mouthing "I want to go home" when I asked him if that was what he was trying to say he nodded and his eyes watered up. Dad also reached for Mom today and touched her cheek. You can really tell Dad has his sense of humor by his smile and some of the gestures he does.
Helen and Lisa (his nurses) said Dad went most of the day without any meds and he indicated he wasn't in any pain. His vitals are good, his fever is staying down and he is well on his way to be weaned from his ventilator. They did have him sitting on the edge of his bed for 20 minutes. I asked if it felt good... he shook his head no, I would guess after 5 weeks of laying it would be hard to sit up also.
Days like this we actually feel half way decent on the drive home.
