GREAT NEWS!! Dad is being transferred Friday AM to the short term rehab facility in Bay City, we were figuring that he would go to one on Monday, but they called today and said he could go tomorrow, He is ready for the change and actually has a positive attitude about it. He will have a more intense physical therapy six days a week and speech three days a week. While he is here they will also teach us to work with him. Mom and I looked at several centers in the area and we actually got our first choice. Heartland Hampton is a small (51 bed) facility, but the people all seem to be happier there, the staff seems pleasant and it came highly recommended.
Dad is really coming along well, he is getting easier to understand and he is so determined to succeed, he is really proving what he is made of. He actually laughed out loud tonight, he has smirked and snickered a little before, but tonight was the first real laugh since February.
He told us that he talked to Carolyn about running again for supervisor, I hope he can, we'll have to see. Dads cognitive abilities are amazing, if only he could get the things from his mind to his mouth. He says his mind is in third and his mouth is in first gear.
He said tonight the nurses and staff at Covenant Rehab were really good and he has no complaints about his stay. They have seen him advance from an empty shell to a person again, they truly have done a super job. Dad is ready to move on though.
At this new facility Dad can have more visitors and spend more time with friends, I will post his schedule as soon as we are given one.
Please keep the prayers and positive thoughts flowing his way....
