Wednesday May 7, 2008

Okay, I am not sure what I did or how I did it, but I must have had an ID-TEN-T moment. Hopefully I can get things straightened out. Today is Wednesday, I have no idea what happened to Tuesdays post (although I posted Monday as Tuesday?!?!)
Dad is still doing quite well, his speech is improving everyday, he still refers to all food as "Spaghetti". It seems at times that his mind is going faster than he can get things out. He can say some words that seem as if they would stumble him quite easily, and others that seem they would be simple he has a hard time with. Dads speech therapist also works with him on eating and drinking. She has given him a special utensil set, which makes it easier to feed himself. He is feeding himself part of his dinner then a nurse comes in and helps him finish. He told us tonight they must not want him to drink anything, because they bring him bad Iced Tea.
Dad's physical therapy is coming along well, he says he can stand for up to 12 minutes at a stretch, he is "walking" on a treadmill. He moves his left leg and then drags his right leg into place. His right arm is back to being numb, it seems to come and go. His PT says that is normal for his condition. They still have him "playing ball", Dad says they should have him practicing his casting instead. Cortney and Fran were in to see him tonight, she and Dad are planning a fishing trip.
We will have a meeting with his care staff next Tuesday to go over a discharge plan. Dad says that he is coming home week, but, they are saying it will be longer. It is getting closer everyday though. Tomorrow they are removing his catheter and will monitor his bladder to make sure it empties. Dad is really looking forward to that step. Next will be his PEG tube then that will be it.
All is looking up and Dad is steadily making progress everyday.
Please keep all the prayers and positive thoughts flowing his way.....
Love to All;
